UW-Stevens Point: Globalization workshop offered for high school teachers

Teachers of high school history, social studies and economics will learn practical classroom skills for educating students on globalization at a workshop offered by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Thursday, July 22.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UWSP Wausau Center at 200 Washington Street, Suite 100, in downtown Wausau. Sponsored by UWSP’s Center for Economic Education and EconomicsWisconsin, the interdisciplinary workshop will give teachers lessons and exercises they can use in their classrooms that address Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for social studies in economics. Speakers will share their views on current global issues, discussing topics such as comparative advantage, trade, investment and balance payments, U.S. and world trade, migration, protection and outsourcing.

Instructing the course is Tracy Hofer, associate professor of economics at UWSP whose expertise is in international economics, macroeconomic theory and political economy. She was named a Wisconsin Idea Fellow by the UW System in 2004 and has received two Excellence in Teaching awards at UWSP.

The workshop cost is $65 per participant and includes the textbook “Focus: Globalization,” lunch, refreshments and parking. Undergraduate or graduate credit from UWSP is offered for an additional cost.
