A coalition of business organizations and media outlets will unite to present the 2010 Wisconsin Gubernatorial Candidate Economic Forum, featuring the eventual Democratic and Republican nominees for governor on Thursday, Sept. 16.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the 950-seat auditorium of Wauwatosa West High School on Center Street, just west of Mayfair Road.
The forum will focus on economic issues impacting the state and other matters relating to doing business in Wisconsin.
The event is being organized by the Wauwatosa West Suburban Association of Commerce (WWSAC). Co-presenters of the forum include the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, the Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce, the Milwaukee Press Club, BizTimes Media, WisPolitics.com and WisBusiness.com .
“Business owners and executives want to know how the candidates would address business issues and the state’s economy,” said Meg McKenna, executive director of the WWSAC. “This forum will give business people from throughout the metro area a chance to hear the candidates’ positions first-hand.”
The public will be invited to attend the free program.
“The large capacity of the Wauwatosa West auditorium and the central location of Wauwatosa within the Milwaukee metropolitan area will contribute to the value of this gubernatorial forum,” McKenna added.
A panel comprised of Milwaukee journalists will be compiled to ask questions of the candidates at the forum. More details of the format of the event will be announced as they are formalized.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is the presumed Democratic nominee for governor. Former Congressman Mark Neumann and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker are vying for the Republican nomination in the Sept. 14 primary.
Both of the candidates who survive the primary will be invited to be featured in the Sept. 16 Economic Forum.
The general election will take place Nov. 2.
