WisBusiness: WMC President Haney to retire after 25 years

By WisBusiness Staff

WMC President and CEO Jim Haney will retire next year after leading the state’s largest business lobby for more than a quarter-century.

Haney, 65, took over the helm WMC in 1985. He was part of the administrations of Republican Govs. Warren Knowles and Lee Sherman Dreyfus. According to a statement from the group, Haney told the WMC Board of Directors this morning that as WMC celebrates its centennial in 2011, he feels it is “the right time to hand the reins to new leadership.”

“Under Jim Haney’s leadership, WMC has become the leading voice of business in Wisconsin,” said WMC Board Chair Thomas J. Howatt. “Jim has worked tirelessly on behalf of business and job creation in our state and his efforts have made Wisconsin a better place to live and work.”

The board has approved a WMC Leadership Transition Plan, and a search committee will be appointed to name a replacement by the second quarter of 2011.
