NARI: 11th Remodeled Homes Tour set for June 6 in Madison

(Madison, WI) The Madison chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, NARI, will present its11th NARI REMODELED HOMES TOUR on Sunday, June 6th. Madison area homes throughout the city will highlight kitchen and whole house renovations, room additions, master bathrooms, bathrooms, basement remodels, home office, laundry rooms, garage renovations, media rooms, dining rooms, pools, decks and more to showcase the craftsmanship of local NARI remodeling contractors. Homes in the NARI REMODELED HOMES TOUR will be open Sunday, June 6th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A $10 ticket will allow entry into all of the homes on the Tour. Tickets for the tour may be purchased at any one of the Tour site locations. The locations will be announced on NARI’s website, http://www.NARIMadison.org and in the Wisconsin State Journal the week prior to the Tour. Included in the admission is a Tour Guidebook with pictures, highlights, and directions to each home. NARI’s Home Remodeling Directory which is the definitive source of remodeling information and tips will also be provided each attendee.

The Joint Center for Housing Studies has found that homeowners tend to undertake a remodeling project within the first 16 to 24 months of moving into a home. The mature market, composed of individuals 55 years of age and older, looks for home improvements that make residences more efficient and more comfortable. Representing nearly 45 percent of the American population, the 78 million strong Baby Boomers, born between 1945 and 1964, remodel for convenience, comfort and personal expression. From extensive room additions for entertainment to larger bathrooms for relaxation to extended kitchens for easier dinner preparation, Baby Boomers are setting the home improvement trends. With Baby Boomers entering their peak earning years, they are choosing to stay in their homes and invest in home improvements. They have grown accustomed to their neighborhoods, like the schools their kids attend, and would rather turn their current residences into their dream homes than pack up and face the hassles of moving.

The Generation X group of people born between 1965 and 1980 tend to take remodeling one step at a time, focusing on one area of the home and putting the remainder on hold until a later date. Having grown up in the computer age, Gen X’ers are more likely than other groups to work at home. Therefore, home office additions or renovations are popular with this group. This group is also a generation of renovators, enjoying the challenges of purchasing older, historic homes.
