Madison, Wis. – Miron Construction Co., Inc. on Wednesday, announced its support for SB 616/AB843, which would require future Wisconsin buildings 10,000 square-feet or greater to meet the standards for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.

The bill has already been passed by the State Senate and Assembly, and awaits Governor Doyle’s signature.

“As a private company, Miron Construction is in the process of seeking LEED certification on the expansion and renovation of our corporate office in Neenah, as well as the build-out of our new regional office in Milwaukee. Practical, green design and construction makes financial sense and positively impacts our bottom line,” said Theresa Lehman, Director of Sustainable Services for Miron. “Passing this legislation would put sustainable design and construction standards in place that would provide healthier indoor environments for people, minimize environmental impacts, and reduce the annual operating and maintenance costs for the state.”

Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is an international green building certification program developed by the US Green Building Council that provides the framework and standards for environmentally friendly design, construction, and operation of new and existing building projects across market segments. The measurable benefits associated with LEED-certified buildings include reduced water consumption, increased energy efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and improved indoor air quality, making the buildings healthier and safer for occupants and less costly to operate annually.

Miron has built over a dozen LEED certified projects that have been awarded Silver, Gold and Platinum certification levels. Another fifteen projects are in various stages of seeking LEED certification.
