MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance’s (WBIA) Bio Power Initiative officially launched a new statewide media campaign this morning aimed at promoting the positive benefits that bio power has in Wisconsin. The campaign includes editorial board visits, radio advertisements, media releases, and other educational materials.

“The goal of this campaign is to continue our work to educate the public on the economic and environmental value of using the biomass we have here in Wisconsin,” said Joshua Morby, Executive Director of the WBIA. “We may not have coal, oil or natural gas, but we do have biomass.”

One component of the campaign is a 60-second radio ad, titled “Community,” which discusses the creation of family-sustaining jobs from the new proposed biomass co-generation facility in Rothschild, as well as the potential improvement in air quality as a result of the project. A full script of the ad follows this release.

In addition to the radio ad, the WBIA’s Bio Power Initiative has been working to educate the general public, elected officials, and the media on the benefits of using Wisconsin biomass as a feedstock.

The group is holding a series of editorial board visits around the state talking with reporters about how this industry can positively impact their region and is working to create a coalition of business leaders and organizations that support clean energy. The Initiative has also released a series of fact sheets that help to clearly define and explain bio power and its role in Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.

Ad Script: “Community” (:60)

Narrator: I want the community where I live to be a clean, safe and thriving environment to raise my family. That means family-supporting jobs, a stronger local economy, and cleaner air.

The investment in a new biomass co-generation facility will make the Domtar, Rothschild mill more competitive in the paper industry. And we need good business neighbors like Domtar who care about our community.

This new facility will create construction jobs and permanent jobs right here in our area – jobs that can support families through difficult economic times.

And the new state-of-the-art technology will help reduce air emissions by about 30 percent. That’s a reason for us all to breathe a lot easier.

With the new biomass project in our community we’ll have a future with family-supporting jobs, a stronger local economy, and cleaner air. I’m all for that!
