MILWAUKEE, April 29, 2010 – For the fourteenth consecutive year, Northwestern Mutual’s financial representative internship program is one of the top 10, according to the 2010 Vault Guide to Internships within the financial services industry.

The Vault study measures mentorship and career advancement opportunities, number of active interns, compensation, intern feedback and unique appeal. Since 1997, Northwestern Mutual’s program has been recognized for providing its interns with opportunities for personal and professional growth, valuable training and real-world experiences with a respected financial security company.

To meet Americans’ growing need for financial guidance, Northwestern Mutual is strengthening its commitment to its internship program by seeking 2,500 interns, a 150% increase since 2005.

“Our internship program is one of the best in the country, because our interns get to test drive the same career as our full-time financial representatives,” said Michael Van Grinsven, former intern and current director of field recruitment. “Our interns are licensed and trained to do what other professionals are doing on a daily basis – addressing long-term financial goals, delivering solutions and helping make a difference in people’s lives.”

The Northwestern Mutual internship program offers virtually unlimited potential for impact and income. Many of the company’s most successful financial representatives and nearly half of its senior field management are former interns.

“Interns tell us the Northwestern Mutual experience equips them with the business acumen and life skills they need to succeed in most careers, not just as a financial representative,” said Van Grinsven.

Northwestern Mutual’s reputation as an industry leader recently was highlighted by Bloomberg BusinessWeek magazine as a “Best Place to Launch a Career” and a “Best Place to Start.” Training magazine named the company a leader in training and leadership development.
