Milwaukee, Wis. – After a friendly competition between Miron Construction Co., Inc. employees, the company today donated nearly 6,000 lbs. of items to the Goodwill Industries of Southeast Wisconsin Store and Donation Center in Wauwatosa. The competition was held in honor of Earth Day’s 40th anniversary to emphasize the importance of reusing to divert waste from landfills.

Miron divided its employees region-wide into three teams, who competed to see which team could collect the largest number (by weight) of donated goods from family, friends, and neighbors. Donations were placed in three semi-sized Miron storage trailers, and each trailer was weighed on Earth Day to see which team donated the most.

The Blue team, consisting of Miron employees from the Neenah, Iowa, Madison, and Milwaukee offices, donated 7,946 lbs. worth of items. The Red team, representing the Neenah and Wausau offices, donated 8,080 lbs., and the Green team, with members from the Neenah office and the yard in Menasha, donated 13,360 lbs. to take first place.

In all, nearly 30,000 lbs. of goods were donated, and the goods have been split into five equal portions to be donated to Goodwill stores throughout Wisconsin and in Iowa. One of the distributions today took place at the Goodwill’s Store and Donation Center on West Feerick Street in Wauwatosa.
