MEDIA ADVISORY

Governor Jim Doyle and Amtrak Board Chairman Thomas Carper will discuss the state’s plans to develop high speed passenger rail tomorrow, Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at the Intermodal Station in Milwaukee. The media availability follows a meeting involving the Amtrak Board of Directors and top federal and state officials to discuss the development of high speed passenger rail in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest.

In January, Governor Doyle announced Wisconsin will receive $823 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to build high-speed rail service to connect its centers of commerce and create thousands of jobs. Governor Doyle has worked for years with Midwestern leaders to prepare the state and region to support the development of a high-speed passenger rail network that links cities, builds the economy and establishes a new vision for intercity passenger rail.
