STEP Industries was awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification. The organization was originally certified in 2007 and was recertified to the latest standard ISO 9001:2008. The designation confirms through an independent auditor that the firm has achieved measurable standards in procedures, safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world’s largest developer and publisher of International Standards.

STEP Industries is a productivity solutions firm providing contract packaging and assembly services specializing in inspection/quality control, parts assembly, customized packaging and labeling. The non-profit organization provides transitional employment to men and women who are recovering from alcoholism or other drug addiction. STEP is headquartered in Neenah and operates facilities in Neenah and Milwaukee.

Typically, manufacturing firms seek ISO certification but a non-profit organization such STEP Industries sought the certification to help create the uniform procedures and documentation needed to serve better their customers.

“Because we employ a transitional workforce, ISO certification ensures the training, documentation and procedures we do with each team member is consistent and delivers high quality outcomes,” said Michelle Devine-Giese, President of STEP Industries.

Businesses considering ISO certification need to invest time and talent into the process according to Devine-Giese. In their organization, she personally gathered the information, wrote the procedures, and trained the staff to achieve the certification after taking classes in compliance and documentation.

“The process requires commitment and support from upper management,” Devine-Giese said. “Internally it ensures every job follows a set of procedures so our team members always know how to complete a job no matter what project they work on.”

ISO certification covers all STEP Industries services which include assembly, inspection, packaging, and re-packaging and order fulfillment.
