MMAC: Sick leave lawsuit heads to Supreme Court

A message from MMAC President Tim Sheehy

This morning, the 4th District Court of Appeals referred MMAC’s legal challenge of Milwaukee’s Sick Leave Mandate to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. As a result of the Appeals Court’s action, Milwaukee Circuit Judge Thomas Cooper’s ruling invalidating the ordinance stands, pending the Supreme Court’s decision on whether to take up the case.

Today’s ruling simply pushes us forward to where we knew we’d be when this legal challenge first started — before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

The rulings previously won by the MMAC in this case remain in effect. Those victories invalidated this poorly crafted ordinance and were a major victory for Milwaukee workers and the employers who create the jobs for those workers.

MMAC remains dedicated to ensuring that our local regulatory standards do not set us apart as a non-competitive regulatory island. We’ll now take our fight to the Wisconsin Supreme Court to strike down this job-killing ordinance once and for all.
