Event Description:
MITA’s January program features two economic experts who will give their views on the prospects for economic recovery in 2010. More than one year after the global economic crisis, there are conflicting projections and information about when we can expect the U.S. economy to recover and what the recovery will look like. William Strauss, a senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, will discuss projections for the trajectory of the U.S. economy in 2010, the major risks and obstacles to recovery, and the role of key Midwestern business sectors in reigniting economic growth.
The public sector has played an important role in stimulating recovery. Governments around the world, including the U.S., China, Japan, and European Union countries, are implementing huge spending packages in response to the crisis. Michael Knetter, Albert O. Nicholas Dean of the Wisconsin School of Business, will discuss the international trade implications of these stimulus packages and will comment on the prospects for an export-led U.S. economic recovery in 2010.
