MMAC: Unveils agenda to power prosperity

At its November 10th All Member Meeting, MMAC unveiled two critical public policy documents.

The first was a comprehensive benchmarking study of the region. “To know where we want to go, we must first take an honest look at where we are as a region,” said MMAC President Tim Sheehy in presenting the study. The study compared the metro Milwaukee area to 20 other comparable metro regions and showed both opportunities and challenges facing Milwaukee.

Key findings included:

* Our per capita Gross Metropolitan Product, of $53,000 dollars and ranks us 7th among our 20 peer regions

* Our Median Household Income of $54,000, is at the midpoint in our peer group.

* Our Net Population Migration saw a net loss of 50,000 people.

* Our Job Growth was only half the rate of our peers, and by the end of this year, we are likely to fall even further behind.

* Our Educational Attainment rate, with 31% of adults holding a bachelor’s degree or higher, places us at the median of our peers.

The second document unveiled at the MMAC All Member Meeting was the 2010 – 2012 Blueprint for Economic Prosperity. The Blueprint set out ambitious public policy goals in the following broad areas:

* High quality opportunities for members to learn, grow and develop new businesses.

* A tax and regulatory climate that positions Wisconsin for growth.

* A regional workforce powered by innovative, knowledgeable and skilled individuals who are productive lifelong learners.

* A reliable and sustainable infrastructure supports a growing regional economy.

* A consumer-based system that provides high-quality, cost-effective health care.

* Accelerated economic development through the attraction and retention of talent and investment

* Growth, expansion and attraction of businesses through the Milwaukee 7 partnership
