WHITEWATER The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will host a two-day meeting of the UW System Board of Regents next week for the first time since 2002.

Regents will gather in the James R. Connor University Center on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 10 and 11.

A campus tour highlighting Timothy J. Hyland Hall, the new home of the College of Business and Economics, begins the Regents’ day on Thursday. It will be their first glimpse of the $41.5-million building they approved.

“It is an honor to host the UW System Board of Regents and our System colleagues on the UW-Whitewater campus,” Chancellor Richard Telfer said. “We look forward to this event and appreciate the opportunity to share all of the exceptional programs and activities that take place on campus.”

After the Hyland tour, Chancellor Telfer will describe “UW-Whitewater: On the Move” in a presentation to the Regents. “I am proud of all that we have accomplished and I am eager to share our achievements with the Regents,” he said.

Regents are expected to approve a new degree at UW-Whitewater, a bachelor of business administration in entrepreneurship in the College of Business and Economics.

They’ll also hear updates on the campus master plan and the academic program at UW-Whitewater. The Business, Finance and Audit Committee will hear a UW-Whitewater presentation on streamlining facilities maintenance.

Regents are expected to approve the first-year budget of $33.5 million for a UW System information technology project to create a more efficient payroll and benefits system. The project, expected to be completed in 2012, is estimated to cost $81.4 million.

UW System President Kevin Reilly will announce the creation of a Research to Jobs Task Force when the Regents convene Friday morning.

In addition to their business duties, Regents will take a lunch break in the Hamilton Center on Thursday and eat breakfast on Friday with UW-Whitewater students in the University Center.

Regents’ spouses have been invited to watch an iron pour in the sculpture lab at the Greenhill Center of the Arts, learn about the Milky Way from physics professor Robert Benjamin and stroll through a prairie with biology instructor George Clokey.

The 18-member Board of Regents is the governing body for the UW System, which includes UW-Whitewater, 12 other four-year campuses, 13 two-year colleges and UW Extension. More than 175,000 students are enrolled.

Meetings are open to the public. The board will convene at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, and at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in room 275 of the University Center, with some committee meetings held in rooms 259 and 261. For more agenda information, see http://www.uwsa.edu/bor/meetings.
