MADISON – Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen today announced that Marawood Sand & Gravel 200, LLC (“Marawood”), has agreed to pay penalties and costs totaling $10,000 for its unlawful discharge of pollutants into the waters of the state without a permit, namely sand into a tributary of O’Neill Creek in ClarkCounty.
After the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conducted an investigation and referred the matter to the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) for prosecution, Marawood was named as a defendant in a civil enforcement action for these 2007 violations of environmental protection laws.
On August 25, 2009, Clark County Circuit Court Judge Jon M. Counsell approved the settlement agreement entered into between the defendant and DOJ.
“For the protection of Wisconsin citizens and our natural environment, the Wisconsin Department of Justice will continue to work with DNR to ensure that Wisconsin environmental laws are followed,” Van Hollen said.
