State Will Provide Up to $35 Million to Support Oshkosh’s Major Defense Contract

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today congratulated Oshkosh Corporation on winning a $281 million military contract to build a family of medium tactical vehicles (FMTV). The Governor also announced that the state will provide up to $35 million in support over the next 12 years for the Oshkosh contract. The project will create 2,000 manufacturing jobs and generate $42 million in private investment.

“I congratulate Oshkosh Corporation on winning this contract, and I am pleased the state could build on our long and successful partnership with the company,” Governor Doyle said. “Wisconsin is open for business and I’m proud our efforts to revamp the Enterprise Zone Program will aid Oshkosh Corporation in creating thousands of jobs.”

“The Enterprise Zone Program is one of the powerful new tools Governor Doyle provided in his budget to boost business development and help companies like Oshkosh Corporation take full advantage of growth opportunities,” Commerce Secretary Richard Leinenkugel said. “We’re delighted to deploy this performance-based economic development tool to assist Oshkosh Corporation in winning this bid, which will bolster not only the company but its considerable Wisconsin supply chain.”

Oshkosh Corporation received the contract from the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command Life Cycle Management Command for the U.S. Army’s Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles rebuy program. The FMTV rebuy program is a five-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract award for the production of up to 23,000 vehicles and trailers as well as support services and engineering.

The contract’s first delivery order is valued at $281 million for the production and delivery of 2,568 trucks and trailers. Initial test vehicle deliveries are planned for mid-2010, followed by production vehicle deliveries later in the year. This is the first phase of a contract that could eventually be worth $2.6 billion.

Founded in 1917, Oshkosh Corporation is a leading manufacturer and marketer of access equipment, specialty vehicles, and truck bodies for the primary markets of defense, concrete placement, refuse hauling, and fire and emergency services. The company has manufacturing operations in ten US states and abroad. The company has nearly 1,900 Wisconsin suppliers.
