Embracing Madison’s tradition in progressive environmental movements The Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) 19th Annual Conference is coming to Madison October 7-11, hosted by the University of Wisconsin – Madison and the Madison Concourse Hotel. Formed in 1991 and over 1500 strong, SEJ is North America’s oldest and largest journalism association focusing on the environment beat. If you cover environment, business, energy, health issues, science, growth, or any other issue related to environment, this conference will provide a diverse offering of interesting information.
Vice President Al Gore will speak on Friday, October 9th about the upcoming gathering of world leaders and scientists in Copenhagen expected to be the most important climate change conference since the signing of the Kyoto Protocol 12 years ago. There will be a questions and answers session followed by a plenary session to respond to Mr. Gore’s call to action. Other confirmed speakers include former The New York Times’ Andy Revkin, NOAA head Jane Lubchenco and United Nation’s Maude Barlow. In addition, Author Wendell Berry will join us as part of a panel discussion on Leopold’s legacy. Madison’s unique attractions such as the Aldo Leopold Center, lakes and rivers, and the environmental savvy culture of UW-Madison are sure to make this conference a success. In Addition, workshops, day tours, breakout discussion sessions and networking events will make this event a must for professionals in this field.
