Proceeds to help provide more than 1.2 million meals to local families in need

MADISON, WI – August 13, 2009 – The Alliant Energy Foundation recently announced that it raised nearly $180,000 for Second Harvest Foodbank at last month’s Drive Out Hunger golf event. The proceeds from the third annual event, which was held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this year, will help provide more than 1.2 million meals for those in need.

Second Harvest will distribute these funds to local hunger-relief agencies such as food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs and additional charitable organizations across Alliant Energy’s service territory. More than 2,200 agencies and organizations in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin will benefit from the dollars raised.

“We are very pleased with the impact this event will have on our local food banks,” said Bill Harvey, Chairman, President and CEO – Alliant Energy. “With the challenging economic conditions, the need is greater than ever, and we are thankful to our sponsors for joining with us to support this important cause.”
