The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board elected Axley Brynelson Attorney Stan Davis as Board President at its Tuesday, June 23, 2009 meeting. As president, Davis leads the 13-member board in establishing statewide policies and standards for educational programs and services provided by Wisconsin’s 16 technical colleges, and for administering state and federal aids throughout the system.

“Leading the WTCS Board at a time when Wisconsin’s technical colleges will play a major role in the resurgence of our economy through the training and education of displaced workers, and preparation of the workforce to help Wisconsin attract and retain jobs is an exciting challenge and opportunity,” says Davis.

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents also introduced Davis as its newest member on Thursday, July 9, 2009. The Board of Regents appoints the President of the UW System, the chancellors of the 13 universities, the chancellor of UW-Extension and UW Colleges, and the deans of the 13 colleges, in addition to establishing the policies and rules for governing the University of Wisconsin System. Davis serves on the Board of Regents in his role as President of the Wisconsin Technical College System.

“It is an honor to be part of leading Wisconsin’s system of higher education,” says Davis. “Serving on both of the boards that administer Wisconsin’s institutions of post-secondary education will allow me to combine my experience in public policy with my belief in the importance of having a strong educational system that provides access and opportunity for all citizens.”

“Working together as a comprehensive education system, Wisconsin’s technical colleges and university system can continue to provide an educational framework that is unsurpassed anywhere in the United States,” Davis adds.

A partner at the Madison, Wisconsin law firm Axley Brynelson, LLP, Davis serves as co-chair of the firm’s Government Relations Group. Prior to working at Axley Brynelson, Davis served as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Jim Doyle.

“Stan’s experience in Wisconsin policy making is recognized statewide,” says Michael S. Anderson, Axley Brynelson’s Managing Partner. “His current service on the boards of the Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation, State of Wisconsin Injured Patients and Families Fund, and the UW-La Crosse Foundation, as well as his past involvement in both Wisconsin government and the boards of Madison organizations such as the Madison Children’s Museum, the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute and the Urban League of Greater Madison make him a tremendous asset to the Board of Regents.”

Davis received his Bachelor’s Degree from the UW-Lacrosse in 1993 and his J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 1998.
