MILWAUKEE (June 29, 2009) – For the sixth year in a row, Kahler Slater has been named one of the 25 Best Companies to Work For in America in the small business category (50-250 employees). The announcement was made today at the 61st annual conference of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) held in New Orleans and attended by more than 15,000 business owners and human resource experts. The list is compiled annually for HR Magazine by the Great Place to Work® Institute (GPTW), a global research and consulting firm that has been listening to employees and evaluating employers for nearly 20 years to understand what makes a workplace great.

Executive Officer Jill Morin noted that the award is especially rewarding this year, as being on the Best Places to Work list for the sixth year in a row coincides with the opening of Kahler Slater’s sixth office. In addition to offices in Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay, Wisconsin and Burlington, North Carolina, the firm’s Singapore office opened in early June. “Our creative and talented employees are the reason for our success. So our goal has always been to do all that we can to support their innovation, encourage their ongoing development, and provide an outlet for their creative passions,” Morin said.

Hundreds of companies across the United States submitted entries in the very detailed and competitive analysis conducted by GPTW. The rankings are primarily determined from employee opinion surveys that analyze an organization’s workplace culture. Employee-survey responses count for two-thirds of an organization’s score. The evaluation process also includes the assessment of organization practices and perspectives from the leadership team, which accounted for one-third of the group’s score.

HR Guy, John Horky offered, “This has been a very trying year for all businesses, ours included, so it is most gratifying that our firm leaders and staff remain committed to our underlying values and purpose, our DNA if you will, that have gotten us to this point. We are going to celebrate what we have already accomplished and are very optimistic regarding our future!” Horky was in attendance at the conference and accepted the award on behalf of the company.

Kahler Slater is a 101 year-old interdisciplinary design firm offering vision and brand alignment, research, architectural, interior design, graphic design, and communications services. A portfolio of Kahler Slater’s work may be found at http://www.kahlerslater.com.

The Great Place to Work® Institute is dedicated to helping organizations practice the behaviors that lead to enhanced quality of work life for employees and improved financial performance for the organization. At the heart of their definition of a great place to work – a place where employees “trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the people they work with” – is the idea that a great workplace is measured by the quality of the three interconnected relationships that exist there: the relationship between employees and management; the relationship between employees and their jobs/company; and the relationship between employees and other employees.
