In Business Magazine: Honors commercial design excellence

MADISON, WI— Here’s great news for the Dane County commercial construction industry! More than 50 projects completed in Dane County in the 2008 calendar year vied for In Business magazine’s top honors as “Project of the Year,” “Winner” and “Merit Award Recipient” at a recent dinner awards program.

IB’s second annual Commercial Design Awards honored the best building designs in Dane County, selected by a panel of three judges from outside of the Greater Madison influence: Mark C. Fenton, Vice President, Leopardo Companies, Inc., Chicago; Geoffrey Hurtado, Senior Vice President, Irgens Development, Milwaukee; and Bob Greenstreet, former Milwaukee City Planner and current Dean of the School of Architecture & Urban Planning at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

“The Commercial Design Awards program was created by In Business magazine two years ago to recognize – and celebrate – the transformative ability these projects have for Dane County,” commented IB Publisher Jody Glynn Patrick.

The dinner event was held at the Sheraton Madison and featured keynote speaker Derrick Van Mell, followed by an awards program for winners and merit ward recipients in each of 12 categories. From that group of honorees, the Project of the Year was unveiled. University Square took the top honors and became the cover of In Business magazine’s May 2009 issue.
