Earn a discount on your electricity bill by using electricity wisely

MADISON, WI – April 21, 2009 – It is as clear as night and day. The time of day when customers use electricity can make a huge difference in how much it costs. Alliant Energy offers Time-of-Day pricing to customers so they can reduce the amount paid for electricity simply by using it at the right time of day.

Time-of-Day pricing provides a discount for electric energy used during off-peak hours – times when the demands for electricity are lowest – weekday evenings and all weekend. Electricity used during on-peak periods – weekdays – are billed at a premium.

With Time-of-Day pricing, you do not have to shift all your electric usage to off-peak hours to realize savings, however big energy users, such as electric water heaters, air conditioners, dishwashers and dryers should be controlled with automatic timers and minor shifts in your routine. For example, save big laundry loads for the weekends and run dishwashers after 9:00 p.m.

Saving money is not the only advantage Time-of-Day pricing offers. You also have the convenience to choose the off-peak time interval that best fits your schedule. This flexibility gives you a better opportunity to enjoy the benefits of Time-of-Day pricing. You can select one of four different off-peak hour intervals, based on when you use the most electricity – a 10-hour option 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday -Friday, or one of three 12-hour options: 8 p.m. – 8 a.m., 9 p.m. – 9 a.m., or 10 p.m. – 10 a.m., Monday – Friday.
