MADISON – Steven Skroch, a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate student in biomedical engineering, is one of five students nationwide chosen to help inaugurate an international program in entrepreneurship by the Kansas City-based Kauffman Foundation.

Skroch was chosen from among 160 applicants nationwide and will participate in a five-month program in Singapore to learn about the Asian market and build a business on the basis of his graduate research. Subsequent to his experience in Singapore at Nanyang Technological University, Skroch will return to the United States and the Kauffman Foundation for more training.

The Kauffman-Singapore Scholars Program was created through a grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, an organization that works to harness the power of entrepreneurship and innovation to grow economies and improve human welfare. Candidates for the program must be pursuing a degree in engineering or a science-related field in concert with business study.

Skroch is a UW-Madison master’s degree candidate and has conducted research on “light activation of human stem cells and neuromuscular junctions in microfluidic devices.” His successful application keyed off extensive experience in the lab and recent internships.
