Women in Business Council: Awards $10,000 in scholarships for business students

MADISON, WI April 2, 2009–The Women in Business Council (WIBC) at Wisconsin School of Business is awarding $10,000 in scholarships to students in the school’s Executive MBA and Evening programs. The awards will be presented to the students on Friday evening April 3 at an executive speaker event for MBA students.

The council’s 2009 scholarships winners are Executive MBA student Kathryn Otto, who is Director of Healthcare Initiatives at Thrive and Evening MBA students Elena Khasanova, Julie Lussier and Laura Ritchie.

Elena Khasanova is Information Technology Manager at the CUNA Mutual Group, Madison. Julie Lussier is Outreach and Annual Giving Supervisor at the Dane County Humane Society and Laura Ritchie is project manager at the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau and also founder and CEO of TuRbo Translation LLC, Madison. .

“These students have demonstrated willingness to take on an educational challenge in addition to their jobs and other obligations,” says Jo Oyama Miller, who co-chaired the council’s scholarship committee. “After reviewing the applications of many worthy students, we hope that other organizations and individuals will join us in supporting students in the school’s Enterprise programs.” The winners are chosen by a committee of council and business school representatives.

The Women in Business Council was created in 1993 as a collaboration between the School of Business and women executives and entrepreneurs. The organization has given over $100,000 to students in Enterprise programs at the Wisconsin business school. This year’s WIBC scholarships were given in honor of Connie Rieben, who worked in the school’s Executive Education program for many years and served as a member of the council. # # #
