Medical College of Wisconsin: Steve Cullen Healthy Heart Run/Walk on Valentine’s Day to benefit research at Cardiovascular Center

This year, the thirteenth annual Steve Cullen Healthy Heart Club Run & Walk, which supports life-saving heart research at The Medical College of Wisconsin, falls appropriately on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

The annual run/walk begins at 10 a.m., at the Wil-O-Way Underwood Clubhouse, 10602 Underwood Parkway in Wauwatosa, and features an eight-kilometer, USA Track and Field-approved competitive run and a 2-mile fun run/walk. Sponsored by the Cullen family and the Badgerland Striders, the event includes door prizes, warm-up exercises and free health screenings along with the famous Cullen Family & Friends Chili and live music.

For more information, or to register in advance as an individual or a team, go to badgerlandstriders.org . Or, register in person, February 14th, starting at 8:45 a.m. Registration is $18 for individuals until February 6th and $22 after that date. For families of four, the fee is $60 until February 6th, and $70 after that date. Companies, schools or organizations with 5 or more participants can compete as a team for the Biggest Heart trophy (most dollars raised for heart research) or the Fleetest Feet trophy (fastest time).

The event is held in memory of Steve Cullen, a former Milwaukee alderman, who died in 1995 at age 40 of a sudden cardiac arrhythmia. His father, at age 41, and two brothers, ages 53 and 51, also died of heart disease. Last year, the event raised $18,000, bringing the total raised since 2004 for heart disease research at the Medical College Cardiovascular Center to $92,600.
