FOND DU LAC, Wis. — The Marian University School of Business hosted the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Great Lakes Region of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) on Oct. 6-7.
Representatives from 18 college and university business schools and departments throughout the Midwest attended the conference, which addressed trends in business education focused on enhancing student learning at the college level.
The program included Dr. Bob Roller, president of IACBE, who presented a workshop on assessment of student learning in business, and discussions of improving student skills and evaluating graduate education. Additional sessions on business education were facilitated by faculty members Dr. JoDee Salisbury (Baker College, Flint, Mich.), Jim Gort (Davenport University, Grand Rapids, Mich.), Dr. Darlene Ringhand (University of Rio Grande, Rio Grande, Ohio), as well as Dr. Gary Stroud and Dr. Jessica Wooten (Franklin University, Columbus, Ohio).
Attendees also participated in a seminar on Wind Energy. The seminar included a visit to the Alliant Energy Cedar Ridge Wind farm in Eden, Wis. Presentations covered the construction, development, financing, permits and other aspects of wind energy and a close-up view of a wind turbine. Guest speakers on wind energy included Randy Portz, Alliant Energy Director of Wind Energy & Distributed Generation, as well as Mary Ann Christopher and Larry Booney, Attorneys at Law from Foley & Lardner LLP.
“It was an extremely interesting program,” said conference organizer Dr. Jeffrey Reed, Marian University’s Dean of the School of Business. “People were engaged in animated discussions regarding student learning. We walked away with new ideas to improve our teaching and evaluation methods. In addition, the wind energy program provided new insights into business aspects of alternative energy and challenges and opportunities for renewable energy in the future.”
