UWSP: Heywood named acting associate dean for College of Letters and Science

Neil Heywood, professor of geography and geology at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), has been named acting associate dean for the College of Letters and Science (L&S).

“I look forward to working with Professor Heywood in the coming months and am appreciative of faculty and staff support as the college transitions to new leadership in 2009,” said Charles Clark, interim dean of the college.

Heywood will administer college facilities, research support, the L&S Undergraduate Research Symposium, the campus Museum of Natural History, personnel matters and other duties as needed. In addition, Heywood will work with fellow Associate Dean Diane Gillo in areas of student and curriculum matters.

A faculty member since 1989, his areas of expertise include biogeography, environmental hazards, environmental change and outdoor recreation. Prior to his appointment at Stevens Point, he taught at Lakeland College, the University of Colorado and the University of Georgia. He has served in many capacities within the college including the dean’s advisory committee, classroom technology demonstration coordinator, and chaired the dean’s advisory reorganization committee in 1996. In 1998 he received UWSP’s Excellence in teaching award.

Heywood earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, a master’s at the University of Georgia, and his doctorate from the University of Colorado.
