Alliant Energy Foundation announces $1 million Rebuilding Our Communities Grant program to help with flood recovery

Non-profits can apply for unrestricted grants of up to $20,000 for flood-related expenses

MADISON, WI – July 9, 2008 – The Alliant Energy Foundation is pleased to announce a new Rebuilding Our Communities Grant Program that will provide funds to non-profits in Alliant Energy communities that were directly affected by the recent flooding.

The Foundation has allocated $1 million for the program and groups can apply for up to $20,000 in unrestricted funds to use for flood-related expenses. Non-profits impacted by flooding can begin requesting grant dollars immediately from the new program.

“Many non-profit organizations have been displaced from their locations and even more have had a greater demand placed on their services due to the devastating flooding,” said Marthea Fox, Alliant Energy Foundation Executive Director. “It is critical that people get the immediate assistance they need to recover from this disaster and we must help maintain the viability of non-profit groups serving them in order to do so.”

The Rebuilding Our Communities Grant Program will provide unrestricted grants in the amount of $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000 to organizations for increased operating and other expenses incurred as a direct result of the recent flooding. Funds are to be used to help non-profits in Alliant Energy’s utility service area resume or maintain operations.

Beginning today, groups can request funds by submitting a brief application form explaining their need and the population they serve that was affected by the flooding. A determination of grant eligibility will be made within 14 days of submission. The Foundation will accept applications for the Rebuilding Our Communities Grant Program until October 1, 2008.

“The Alliant Energy Foundation has contributed and invested over $26 million in our community agencies and non-profit partners over the past ten years,” added Fox. “We want to continue supporting them during these challenging times so that they can provide valuable services to their communities well into the future.”

To be eligible, an organization must be a registered non-profit organization as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Service Code. Organizations are encouraged to review eligibility guidelines before applying.

As an immediate response to help people impacted by the flooding, the Alliant Energy Foundation contributed $85,000 to support flood victims and relief efforts in Iowa and Wisconsin. A $50,000 donation was made to the American Red Cross in Iowa, $10,000 to the Salvation Army in Cedar Rapids, and $10,000 to the American Red Cross in Wisconsin.
