New North Meeting to Focus on Marketing for Entrepreneurs

NEW NORTH, June 12, 2008 – The New North Small Business and Entrepreneurial Council will hold its quarterly networking panel discussion on Tuesday, June 24 from 9 – 11 a.m. at the D.J. Bordini Center in Appleton, Wis. The topic, “Best Practices in Marketing for Small Businesses,” features several New North marketing experts.

Sean Fitzgerald, publisher of New North B2B, a monthly publication providing news affecting the business community in the New North, will facilitate an information-sharing with marketing professionals experts to exchange feedback and ideas. Entrepreneurs, small business owners, inventors, and other interested individuals are encouraged to attend to provide input regarding training and networking opportunities.

The panel includes Diane Penzenstadler, Mary Schmidt and Jay Stoflet. Penzenstadler is owner of 44º North Advertising & Design in Oshkosh, Wis. The business, opened in 1988, assists organizations of all sizes with marketing and advertising. In 2006, Diane launched a sister company, Encoré Event Planning, focused on event planning. Her education is in journalism with an emphasis on advertising and public relations.

Mary Schmidt is president of Schmidt Communicates, LLC, a public relations/marketing consulting firm with clients throughout the New North. In addition to working in a variety of advertising and marketing positions for large corporations and consulting agencies, her background includes stints as a working journalist in the Madison and Green Bay markets. Mary has a journalism degree from UW-Madison and is a member of several service groups and non-profit organizations.

Jay Stoflet is director of retail marketing for Renew Fuel Stations where he heads up growth and development for 13 alternative fuel stations throughout the New North. Jay has a diverse background in advertising and marketing over the past 15 years, beginning his career as an art director focused on retailing and brand management for clients such as Miller Brewing, Harley Davidson and Golden Books. After relocating to the Fox Cities, he left the agency world to join Community First Credit Union, serving as the head of marketing. During this period, he was also a nationally featured speaker on brand development. Jay is a graduate of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.
