Area businesses team up to deliver Mallards baseball games via the Web

Every home pitch delivered wirelessly using TDS’ WiMAX technology and Mediasite webcasting technology.

MADISON, Wis.June 9, 2008 – For the second year in a row, Sonic Foundry Inc. and TDS are teaming up with the Madison Mallards to bring the teams’ home baseball games to a computer near you. The games will be carried live on the Web using Mediasite by Sonic Foundry.

New this year — every home game will be webcast live wirelessly over TDS’ WiMAX service. There’s no cost for fans to enjoy all the live action from the convenience of their computer.

“We’re excited to once again offer fans a way to watch all the action when they can’t make it to the ballpark,” says Vern Stenman, general manager of the Madison Mallards. “It’s great to have the support of TDS and Sonic Foundry. Their generosity and technical prowess make it possible for our fans to watch all the Mallards baseball games this season.”

TDS is providing the Internet connectivity via WiMAX – a revolutionary, wireless high-speed Internet and phone service. TDS is also hosting the online content, making it easy for fans to connect to live games via Sonic Foundry’s patented Mediasite webcasting and content management system.

Since 2001, the Mallards have been entertaining fans through a unique atmosphere that’s become a staple of summertime fun for the entire family. It’s also become a Madison cornerstone.

Mallards Baseball

Last summer the team drew 209,856 fans and surpassed the one million mark in franchise attendance on August 10; a feat no other summer collegiate baseball team has achieved.  Fans game-day experience was enhanced through the addition of closed-circuit television, Stoddard’s Smokehouse, and the Home Plate Club, featuring 130 old County Stadium seats with wait service. A 200-foot zip-line was also installed for the team’s mascot, Maynard G. Mallard, to ride before each game. The Mallards open play at home on May 29 against the La Crosse Loggers at 7:05 p.m.
