Wisconsin biodiesel production focused on reducing global warming

DeFOREST – As Earth Day approaches, Sanimax Energy is working to fight global climate change by producing a clean-burning, renewable alternative to traditional diesel fuel.  Sanimax operates a multi-feed stock bio diesel production facility north of Madison in DeForest, capable of producing more than 20 million gallons of fuel each year.

“We’re excited to be the first large-scale biodiesel facility in the state, and we look forward to expanding the availability of this renewable fuel across Wisconsin,” said Jeremy Goodfellow, Vice President of Energy for Sanimax.

The DeForest facility came online in the spring of 2007, and is capable of producing biodiesel from a variety of raw materials available in Wisconsin, including tallow, vegetable oils, and recycled grease products.  Sanimax is also working to partner with Wisconsin’s ethanol industry to develop advanced use corn oil as an additional feedstock, providing an unmatched diversity in potential fuel sources.

Studies by U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Energy Emissions show that carbon dioxide, one of the main causes of global warming, is reduced by 78 percent when biodiesel is used instead of conventional diesel.

The use of biodiesel also substantially reduces unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter, helping to protect our environment and our air quality.

“We’re very pleased with what we’ve already accomplished in terms of bringing the benefits of biodiesel to Wisconsin, and we look forward to continuing to evolve and grow as a company and make an environmentally friendly, homegrown fuel even better,” Goodfellow said.
