Cinema Series Celebrates Fiskars Creative Spirit

MADISON, Wis., April 14 /PRNewswire/ — After 350 years in business, the Fiskars Corporation has plenty of stories to tell. But the one that we’re most excited about, and the one we’ve chosen to share in our new Cinema Series, is the story of Fiskars’ ongoing support for creativity and self-expression. In our three Cinema Series webisodes, we celebrate historic Fiskars Village, our revitalized hometown, which has transformed itself from a dying industrial town to a thriving artists’ colony, and profile our legendary designer Olavi Linden, a gifted man whose vision and artistry embody the best of our creative spirit.

Episodes one and two profile the history and artisans of Fiskars Village. Founded in 1649, Fiskars was a company town until the late 1980’s when operations were relocated to more modern facilities. It looked like the beautiful little village was in for hard times when an extraordinary thing happened. In 1992 a small artist cooperative was set up and began attracting creative souls from around the world, and Fiskars quickly became the creative hub of Finland. Populated by glassblowers, cabinet makers, metal smiths, ceramicists, folk artists, and industrial designers, this reborn community draws thousands of tourists to its galleries and restored 17th century village. It even won the prestigious Royal Destination Award for Sustainable Tourism in 2007 for its eco-friendly practices.

The first installment of the Cinema Series concludes with a profile of Finnish inventor Olavi Linden, whose personal artistic journey and work at Fiskars has led to dozens of design awards. Linden, who builds violins and experimental bicycles, in addition to designing our innovative garden products and craft tools, embodies the spirit of creativity innate to our company. “Everything,” Linden likes to say, “can be made better.”
