Technology brings International Expert to Sustainable Industry Conference & Expo in Beloit, Wisconsin

BELOIT, April 7, 2008 – Bob Willard, a former Executive at IBM Canada, is a leading expert on the business value of corporate sustainability strategies and has authored several books on related topics.  In the last five years, he has given hundreds of keynote presentations to corporations, governments, academics, and NGOs.  But Bob was concerned that he was doing too much flying for the good of the planet. In an effort to reduce his personal carbon footprint, especially from flights, he began encouraging conference organizers to consider less-expensive, virtual, lower-carbon alternatives for presentations, depending on their needs and preferences.

The Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce is taking advantage of Bob’s flexible booking policies and has arranged for a multi-media presentation of Bob’s DVD The Business Case for Sustainability followed by a question and answer session via webcam with the conference attendees.  This presentation will be the first session of the Sustainable Industry Conference & EXPO on May 8, 2008 at the Eclipse Center in Beloit, Wisconsin.  The all-day event is hosted by the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce and the Midwest Food Processors Association.

According to Chamber Vice President Amy Loudenbeck, “We are fortunate to have a large venue in our community that is equipped with the technology to make this presentation possible.  Video conferencing and other technologies are ways that companies can reduce their environmental impact while saving time and money.  It is so appropriate that we are using sustainable businesses practices at this event.”

A noon luncheon will present opportunities to network with fellow conference attendees and exhibitors with Keynote Speaker Melanie Holmes VP of World of Work Solutions, Manpower North America.  The afternoon will consist of a panel on Corporate Culture followed by roundtable discussions to facilitate sharing of Best Practices for facility energy audits, conserving resources, waste reduction and recycling, supply chain management, innovative product development, and more.  Immediately following the conference, a Business After Hours will allow for more EXPO time and networking.   All industry sectors are encouraged to attend.

This event is open to the public.  Registration options include exhibitor, conference/expo attendee and lunch/expo only and pre-registration is required.  There will be a Business After Hours after the conference with opportunities to network and visit the EXPO (fee charged, no RSVP required).  For more information, contact the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce at (608) 365-8835 or visit www.greaterbeloitchamber.com and click on the EXPO link.
