Godfrey & Kahn Named Eco-Challenge Partner by American Bar Association

Milwaukee, Wisconsin (March 27, 2008). The law firm of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. is pleased to announce that the American Bar Association has named the firm as an Eco-Challenge Partner. Godfrey & Kahn is the 38th out of  50 firms across the country and the only firm in Wisconsin to receive this distinction.

The ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have designed a program to encourage law offices to take simple, practical steps to become better environmental and energy stewards. The program encourages law firms to reduce the amount of paper used and increase recycling, increase the use of renewable energy, and reduce electricity use by 10 percent. Godfrey & Kahn is certified in the “Best Paper Practices” category and is working toward other certifications.

“Law firms that act now to develop green strategies are having an immediate impact on the environment by taking simple steps,” said Art Harrington, head of the Environmental & Energy Practice Group and chair of the firm’s Green Initiative Committee. Harrington has implemented several strategies to reduce paper consumption including filing work and communicating electronically and setting the more than 140 printers and copiers in the firm’s Milwaukee office to print double-sided.

“We believe that the involvement in the ABA Eco-Challenge will serve to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through the use of less paper. We are hopeful that these actions will be a first step in improving our environmental and energy footprint at our firm,” said Managing Partner Rick Bliss.
