Asian economic growth expert to speak at UW-Madison

Can China and India keep up their explosive growth? And what does it
mean if they do?

An international trade expert from Cornell University will address those
issues in a free, public lecture on Monday, Feb. 18, on the UW-Madison
campus.

“Are China’s and India’s Growth Miracles Built to Last” will be the
topic by Eswar Prasad, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pyle Center, 702 Langdon St.

Prasad is the Tolani Senior Professor of Trade Policy in the Department
of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell, in Ithaca, N.Y. He was
previously chief of the financial studies division at the International
Monetary Fund and head of the IMF’s China division.

Prasad has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. Most
recently, he helped write an IMF study on financial globalization and
has edited IMF books and monographs on China, Hong Kong and India. His
current research interests include the macroeconomics of globalization,
the relationship between growth and volatility, and the Chinese and
Indian economies.

His talk is organized by the UW-Madison Center for World Affairs and the
Global Economy and the La Follette School of Public Affairs, as well as
other university and state agencies.
