Governor Doyle Announces Funding for Water System Replacement Project in Iowa County

MADISON— Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the Village of Highland, Iowa County, will receive a $220,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant–Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program of the Department of Commerce to fund its water system replacement project.

“This project will allow the Village of Highland to improve its outdated water system along Highway 80,” Governor Doyle said. “These improvements will prevent water pipe breakage and water system contamination.”

The Village of Highland is rebuilding its water system, which was installed in 1910. The village plans to replace water main lines and eight fire hydrants no longer in good working condition. Plans also include installing water main connections to the additional 10 water mains in the industrial park to attract new businesses. The total project cost is estimated at $865,000.

The Department of Commerce (Commerce) administers the CDBG Program. These CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
