Governor Doyle Announces Wager with New York, New Jersey Governors

Encourages State Employees to Wear Green and Gold on Friday

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle announced today friendly wagers with New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine on Sunday’s NFL showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants at Lambeau Field.  Governor Doyle is encouraging state employees to put their Packer pride on display Friday by wearing Green and Gold to work.

“I don’t mind that the two governors are ganging up on me because Charles Woodson and the Packer secondary will be teaming up on Giants quarterback Eli Manning all night on Sunday,” Governor Doyle said. “The Packers are in the midst of an incredible run and I look forward to them advancing to their first Super Bowl in 10 years with a win this weekend. Wisconsin has a right to be proud of the Packers and what they have achieved this year. On Friday, I’m encouraging state employees to show some of that pride by wearing the Green and Gold.”

“I accept Governor Doyle’s friendly wager and offer up a shipment of New York’s finest pastrami,” Governor Spitzer said. “I am confident Eli Manning and our Giants will make New York proud this Sunday, bringing home the NFC championship as well as some of Wisconsin’s finest bratwurst.”

Riding on Sunday’s game is Wisconsin bratwurst, known to be the best bratwurst in the country. Governor Spitzer brings to the table his state’s finest pastrami and Governor Corzine is offering a case of Jersey Fresh tomatoes.

The Packers advanced to the National Football Conference Championship Game by defeating the Seattle Seahawks 42-20 last week at Lambeau field. The Giants advanced with a 21-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. The Packers beat the Giants 35-13 on September 16, 2007, their only other meeting of the year.

The winner will face either the New England Patriots or San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl XLII on February 3, 2008 in Pheonix, Ariz.
