First utility-scale wind farm in Indiana to be completed in May

Madison, Wisconsin – 12.18.2007 – Alliant Energy WindConnect® has been awarded the balance of plant engineering and construction work for the Benton County Wind Farm, the first utility-scale wind farm in Indiana.

WindConnect began construction activities at the 40-square-mile site in Benton County, Indiana, in September 2007, and is scheduled to complete work in May 2008. The wind farm consists of 87 GE 1.5-megawatt (MW) wind turbines, which will deliver 130.5 MW of energy to Duke Energy Indiana and Vectren Energy Delivery, Inc. through separate power purchase agreements.

Construction of the massive concrete and steel turbine foundations, roadways, and underground collection system is nearly complete. Construction of the six-mile, 138-kV transmission line and substation interconnecting to the electric grid will be complete in early April 2008. Final turbine erection will be completed in May 2008, at which time the system will be energized.

Once operational, the Benton County Wind Farm will provide enough power to supply approximately 35,000 homes, and will save approximately 278,000 tons per year of greenhouse gas emissions from what otherwise would have been produced from fossil generators.

The Benton County Wind Farm is being developed by Orion Energy Group, LLC of Oakland, California.
