Governor Doyle Announces Job Creation Project in Waterloo

MADISON– Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the City of Waterloo, Jefferson County, will receive a $118,500 grant from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities and Economic Development (CDBG-PFED) program of the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to provide the infrastructure necessary to support a business expansion

“My administration is committed to helping communities with the infrastructure necessary to support new economic development opportunities,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased that we could assist the City of Waterloo in helping a local business expand.”

Briess Malt and Ingredients Company (Briess) is a leading manufacturer of specialty malts for the brewing, food, and pet food industries. In 1990, it  was certified to produce organic ingredients.  Briess plans on reopening  shuttered plant in Waterloo, creating ten full-time positions, retaining five full-time positions, and improving the plant at a cost of $1.4 million. The city will use the grant to provide sanitary sewer service to the reopened plant. Total project cost is $1,590,000.

CDBG-PFED grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community buildings, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns
