Bennett Freeman will speak about “Corporate Social Responsibility and Socially Responsible Investment”as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series’ Spotlight Series on Tuesday, October 9 at 7:30 pm in room B10, Ingraham Hall, 1155 Observatory Drive. Doors open at 7:15 pm. No tickets are needed for this free event that is intended for UW students, faculty and staff and Union members and guests.
Freeman joined the Calvert Group in April 2006 to direct the social research, policy and advocacy work of the largest family of socially responsible mutual funds based in the U.S. Former Managing Director and Senior Counselor for Burson-Marsteller, Freeman led the firm’s Global Corporate Responsibility practice related to human rights, labor rights and sustainable development. Freeman also acted as Former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor from 1999 to early 2001. In that capacity, he helped develop the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. He was the presidential campaign aide to former Vice President Walter Mondale from 1982-85. Currently, Freeman serves on the Board of Directors of Oxfam America and the Steering Committee of Amnesty International USA’s Business and Human Rights program.
