The Most Personalized and Precise Online Storm Warning Service Increases Partner Sites’ Paid Content Revenue

Madison, Wis., January 20, 2004 – MyWeather LLC, leading provider of privately branded online weather services to more than 550 web sites, today announced patent protection for the most personalized and precise system of storm warnings available online. This unique technology is available to partner web sites as part of Premium Weather, a fee-based service that consumer and business web sites can fully brand and use to generate revenue from the growing paid content marketplace.

“For the first time, storm cell information is combined with an individual’s personal locations and storm criteria,” said Victor Marsh, MyWeather vice president of operations and co-author of the patent. “This technology provides a more localized and personalized warning of impending severe weather then is currently available from any other source.”

Instead of countywide alerts for severe weather events, like those through the National Weather Service, MyWeather only notifies individuals for specific storms that match their criteria, such as type of storm and address-specific locations. Subscribers also choose to be alerted by e-mail, wireless device or a blinking computer tray icon.

This patented technology strengthens Premium Weather, a highly personal, interactive weather suite that includes nationwide severe weather outlooks, regional time-lapse maps for current radar, satellite and temperature, and animated forecasts detailing hour-by-hour progression of future weather conditions. For a small fee, subscribers can access Premium Weather through a MyWeather partner web site.

Partner sites can fully brand and offer Premium Weather to their visitors at no cost to the site and share in subscriber revenue. Available as a complete turnkey package, or as additions to a partners site’s existing paid content, Premium Weather services include subscriber acquisition and retention marketing, registration and addressable demographics, billing and fulfillment services, and full customer support. Premium Weather can be applied to a variety of consumer interests, such as personal/family safety and outdoor recreation. Possible industries include public safety, agriculture, construction and facility management.

The patent, titled “System and Method for Providing Personalized Storm Warnings” is protected under patent number 6,654,689 and was issued November 25, 2003. In 2002, MyWeather also received a broad patent for its innovative system and method of providing truly personal weather reports for customized locations.
