Gov. Walker: Building Commission approves projects

MADISON – Today, the State of Wisconsin Building Commission met to approve several key projects across the state including, but not limited to:

  • Exercise the Option to purchase the Tommy G. Thompson building in Madison;
  • Construct a new Health Services Unit for Racine Correctional Institution;
  • Various all agency projects for the Department of Health Services, including structured cabling upgrades for high-speed data transmission at Mendota Mental Health Institute and the Northern Wisconsin Center;
  • Replacement and maintenance of major equipment and infrastructure improvements to Peninsula State Park;
  • Release of Stewardship Property Development funds for 19 total projects with matching funds in Stewardship matching funds by the Friends group and nonprofit conservation organizations;
  • Infrastructure improvements to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Northwest Regional Headquarters in Superior;
  • Design of the renovation of Boebel Hall at University Wisconsin – Platteville; and
  • Other various maintenance and repair projects around the state.

“The State Building Commission approved a number of important projects today, that will have a positive impact on Wisconsin families,” said Governor Scott Walker. “These projects will improve the experience of families visiting Peninsula State Park, for students attending UW-Platteville, for anyone working for or receiving help from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and the purchase of the Tommy G. Thompson Building will save almost $85 million in taxpayer dollars. I would like to thank the members of the Building Commission for moving these projects forward to improve facilities throughout Wisconsin that impact our citizens every day.”

The Building Commission is chaired by Governor Walker and made up of the following members:

  • State Senator Terry Moulton;
  • State Senator Jerry Petrowski;
  • State Senator Janis Ringhand;
  • State Representative Rob Swearingen;
  • State Representative Terry Katsma;
  • State Representative Jill Billings; and
  • Citizen member Bob Brandherm.
