Madison, Wisconsin – Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) is excited to introduce The Morning Show with Kate Archer Kent, airing weekdays from 6 to 9 a.m. on The Ideas Network, starting October 2. The program will replace The Joy Cardin Show on an interim basis, with a new morning show expected to launch next year. The changes come as Joy Cardin has announced her retirement after more than 30 years in radio, including 14 years hosting The Joy Cardin Show.

As WPR’s current fill-in host, Kent is well prepared for the job of interim morning show host. Before joining WPR last year, Kent worked at Red River Radio in Shreveport, La., where her accomplishments included launching the station’s news division. On the weekends, you can find the Minneapolis native making her way through visiting all 200 of Madison’s parks with her husband and four young children.

“Every day is a new territory to explore – bringing together thoughtful guests and engaged listeners who speak from the heart,” said Kent. “This morning roundtable will set the tone for our day and help us to ask the relevant questions.”

The Morning Show will continue the tradition of listener favorites from The Joy Cardin Show, such as “On Your Money” with Kevin McKinley and “Week in Review.” Listeners can also expect to hear experimentation with new and different ideas.

“There’s a lot going on in the world right now, and weekday mornings are an important time of day,” said Sheryl Gasser, director of The Ideas Network. “We’re committed to continuing to give morning listeners the conversations and news they need to be informed and successful in their everyday lives.”

WPR will conduct a national search for a morning show host this fall, with the new show expected to launch in early 2018.
