The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has again been recognized for its sustainability efforts, earning a spot on 2018 The Princeton Review Green College Honor Roll.

The only Wisconsin school to make the exclusive list, UW-Stevens Point is among 24 U.S. colleges receiving a Green Rating of 99, the highest score possible. Criteria includes having a healthy and sustainable quality of life, preparing students for employment and citizenship in a world defined by environmental concerns and the school’s overall commitment to being environmentally responsible.

“The Princeton Green Review is one of the premier sustainability-rating services in the country,” said Dave Barbier, UW-Stevens Point’s sustainability coordinator. “A perfect score and achieving honor roll status speaks to the holistic approach the university takes toward preparing our students for a sustainable future.”

Recently, UW-Stevens Point became the first in the UW System to achieve 100 percent renewable electricity, earned the 2017 Department of Education Green Ribbon Award and launched a doctorate program in educational sustainability. The university has also earned a second Gold Rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability and funded more than $250,000 in sustainability projects through the Student Government Association Green Fund. Last year, UW-Stevens Point composted more than 72 tons of food residuals from its three main dining locations, and each building has composting. It was 40th in the country to earn Fair Trade University designation.

In addition, UW-Stevens Point operates an Operations and Waste Management Facility with a wastewater treatment plant, composting lab and recycling center. Each residence hall is equipped with recycling chutes on each floor and five use solar panels to heat domestic hot water. Water-bottle refill fountains, rain gardens, dual flush toilets and innovative storm water systems use water efficiently on campus. The university also builds and remodels within Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold standards.
