MADISON- American Family Children’s Hospital’s Annual Car Seat Recycle Day will not only take potentially-dangerous used car seats out of circulation, it will benefit animals at the Shelter from the Storm Madison.

“Car and booster seats that are more than six years old or those sold at garage sales and thrift stores are not safe because there is no guarantee that they haven’t been involved in a crash,” said Nicole Vesely, Safe Kids coordinator at American Family Children’s Hospital.

On April 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the parking lots at the Kohl’s stores at West Towne and East Towne, people will be able to drop off old car seats. Volunteers will take apart the car seats and recycle the materials. The padding from the seats will be donated to the animal rescue group for bedding.

Car Seat Recycle Day is a partnership among the children’s hospital, Safe Kids and AAA. Each year, hundreds of car and booster seats are dropped off and recycled.
