Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups: City of Madison Senior Center recognized by the National Council on Aging (NCOA)

MADISON: The City of Madison, Wisconsin Senior Center was recognized today for its “Peer to Peer Computer Training” by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC).

The Madison Senior Center offers a four week adult class covering “basic computer” and “printer maintenance,” along with the training of: Microsoft Office, Internet Usage, creating and using an email account and the use of Face Book. This special training also assists Madison seniors on how to obtain free credit reports, Medicare applications, online banking and personal computer security.

“This is a well-deserved national award and recognition of Madison’s Senior Center, which has been an ongoing outstanding resource for older adults in Madison;” said A.J. Nino Amato, President/CEO of the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups (CWAG). “The computer training at the Madison Senior Center is one of many excellent programs and services provided to Madison’s elderly, which keeps our aging population engaged in community activities, mentally and socially active, instant contact with their friends, family and up-to-date on breaking news.”

The NCOA Program of Excellence Award is a nationwide competitive annual award, conducted and vetted by the NCOA staff in Washington D.C.

For 2014, there were 68 qualified senior center nominees and six honorable awards and six honorable mentions, which included the City of Madison Senior Center’s “Peer-to-Peer Computer Training Program.”
