APPLETON/FOX CITIES, OCTOBER 27 – After many years of planning, the Community Blood Center ( http://www.communityblood.org/) will be celebrating the grand opening of their new 8,400 sq. ft. multi-purpose Garage and Warehouse on 4406 W. Spencer Street, Appleton. The ribbon-cutting reception will be held inside the new facility on Thursday, October 30th from 3-4pm. The event is open to the public and will include special guests from the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction Project Leaders, City of Appleton Mayor, and Community Blood Center Board Members, Volunteers and Staff. Cookies, coffee and hot chocolate will be served at the open house which includes a site tour.

The Garage and Warehouse, which includes vehicle wash bays, office space, loading dock, and a mobile prep area, provides climate controlled storage for medical supplies and has capacity for six buses and five vans. The new facility at the Appleton campus will help the Community Blood Center become more efficient, expand their services and carry out their mission of providing high quality, life-saving blood products to the community hospital patients they serve.

“Donors have found our mobile sites extremely convenient and we anticipate those numbers growing,” said John Hagins, CEO/President for the Community Blood Center. “Having our bloodmobiles and courier vans on site enhances our operational efficiencies.”

The Community Blood Center is a non-profit organization that has worked with generous blood donors to provide a steady, reliable blood supply for hospital patients for over 50 years. Volunteers who donate blood support the local blood supply at 18 hospitals in Wisconsin and Michigan. Partnerships are created with community groups, schools, churches, and businesses to hold over 125 blood drives each month. Donor centers are located in Appleton, Little Chute, Oshkosh, and Woodruff. Blood and blood product donations are needed every day to meet the needs of community hospital patients. Appointments may be made online at http://www.save3lives.org or by calling 800-280-4102.
