MADISON – Sue Kunferman, director and health officer of the Wood County Health Department, will join the Wisconsin Partnership Program’s Oversight and Advisory Committee (OAC) in November. The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents appointed Kunferman to a four-year term on October 10.

The Board of Regents also appointed Richard Moss, a senior associate dean at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, and re-appointed Katherine Marks of Kenosha and Dr. Cynthia Haq of the School of Medicine and Public Health, to the OAC. Moss replaces Dr. Susan Goelzer of the School of Medicine and Public Health, who was appointed to the OAC in 2003 and served as its chair from 2007 to 2011. The Board of Regents appointed Marks, who serves as an advocate for urban health, and Haq in 2010.

“These appointments will support the committee’s efforts to integrate its work throughout the state and draw on the school’s many resources to create healthier communities and ultimately a healthier Wisconsin,” said Dr. Robert Golden, dean of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.

As the statewide health advocate, Kunferman will serve as one of four public members on the OAC, which supports the Partnership Program’s mission to improve the health of Wisconsin communities and reduce health disparities. Since 2004, the OAC has awarded more than $56 million in grants to organizations for community-academic partnerships that address critical health issues in the state.

Kunferman has 19 years of experience in public health and has served on several local and statewide boards. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Viterbo University in La Crosse and her master’s degree in nursing administration from UW-Eau Claire. Kunferman replaces Doug Mormann, who has served on the OAC since its creation in 2002. Mormann is retiring as director of the La Crosse County Health Department at the end of the year.
