Area nonprofits receive $70,700 in grants

Awards from Alliant Energy and the Alliant Energy Foundation help fund community projects

MADISON, Wis. – Sept. 16, 2014 – Twenty-four Madison nonprofit organizations are receiving community grants totaling $46,300 from Alliant Energy and the Alliant Energy Foundation in the second 2014 giving cycle. The grants bring the year-to-date total given in the area to more than $120,000.

Nonprofits receiving grants from Alliant Energy’s corporate giving program are:

· The Urban League of Greater Madison Inc., $17,500 for ADVANCE Employment Services

· The Overture Center Foundation, $7,000 for The Tommy Awards

Among those earning grants from the Alliant Energy Foundation are:

· Madison Public Library Foundation, $5,000 for the Wisconsin Book Festival

· Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Dane County, $3,000 for its computer workshop

· Operation Fresh Start Inc., $2,500 for graduate crew tools and equipment;

· Domestic Abuse Intervention Services Inc., $2,000 in direct aid

· RSVP of Dane County Inc., $2,000 for the Foster Grandparent program

Additional nonprofit organizations receiving grants are: Madison Symphony Orchestra Inc., Madison-Area Urban Ministry Inc., Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras, Youth Services of Southern Wisconsin Inc., The Salvation Army of Dane County, Madison Bach Musicians Inc., Simpson Street Free Press, Opera for the Young Inc., Wisconsin Academy for Graduate Service Dogs Inc., The River Food Pantry, Madison Senior Center, Neighborhood House Community Center, Madison Ice Inc., Braille Library & Transcribing Services Inc., Wisconsin Agribusiness Foundation Inc., Wisconsin Court Appointed Special Advocates Association and the Dane County Humane Society.

“These nonprofit organizations provide substantial benefits that improve life in the community,” said Julie Bauer, executive director of the Alliant Energy Foundation. “We have seen the good that they do, and we are proud to support their efforts.”
