Neenah, Wis. – Miron Construction Co., Inc. was among the first Wisconsin firms to receive the Green Master Award during the Third Annual Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council Conference. The conference was hosted in Neenah on December 8, 2010 at Miron’s corporate headquarters, for which Miron is seeking green-building certification through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) initiative of the U.S. Green Building Council.

More than 60 firms were evaluated and scored for taking steps in a variety of areas linked to sustainability, from energy efficiency and water consumption and their carbon output to purchasing, outreach and education and governance. The fourteen companies that scored the highest were recognized as Green Masters.

“Miron Construction is truly a leader in sustainability, both in practices and bringing sustainable building solutions to its clients” said Tom Eggert, executive director of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. “We’re thrilled to present the Green Master Award to Miron Construction at this year’s conference.”

Tim Kippenhan, co-owner and COO of Miron Construction, stated “Miron is humbly honored to receive the Green Master Award and to be recognized as a sustainable leader. The Green Masters Program is a great platform for organizations to benchmark their current environmental efforts, create sustainable goals, implement strategies, and measure progress. The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council is a catalyst for organizational leaders to share best practices and resources. The sharing of multilateral perspectives across industries has inspired us to further integrate sustainability into our organization, allowing us to gain an even greater appreciation for the benefits of the triple bottom line: people, planet and payback. More importantly, making sustainability an integral part of our corporate culture has positively affected employee behaviors. More and more our employees are recognizing the benefits of sustainability on a personal level.”

Formed three years ago, the sustainable business council strives to establish a statewide network of companies (of all sizes) working in environmental management and energy efficiency; companies taking steps to become more sustainable.
